The goal of the BSO is to safeguard public health by guaranteeing that food that is both safe and high-quality is available on the Benin market. Product registration, premises registration, and post-approval food and feed market surveillance are among FEAR’s primary regulatory responsibilities. It oversees the surveillance and investigation of food-borne diseases and acts as the International Food Safety Authorities Network’s point of contact.

The FEAR achieves its mandate through the following Departments:

1.  Receives all applications for Registration from the Reception Unit;
2. Conducts check lists for products;
3. Conducts screening and preliminary evaluation;
4. Communicates preliminary evaluation findings to Applicant;
5. Receives feedback;
6. Codes all products;
7. Conducts assessment for evaluation of dossiers.
